Inner Workings

... of my mind this week:

1. I still wear my retainers a few times a week. No way am I going to risk having to get braces again. Once was more then enough for me, thank you very much.

2. I love that its so light out when I drive to work. Now the headlights of other cars (behind me and coming at me) don't blind me.

3. I am thankful for the awesome kids D has coached this year. They've had an incredible regular season, and I can't wait to see how everything unfolds with playoffs.

The things you learn

About me reading these posts every week. 1. My dad and I don't like to drink cold water. We prefer it room temperature. D thinks this is gross. 2. I have found a love of party planning. All of it, the invites, food, decorations, details; I love it all. 3. I am thankful for never having to wonder where my next meal is going to come from.

Yum, I love food

FOR THE LOVE OF FOOD # 92 - Make D a dinner of his choice (3/3)

These are the three dinners I made for D

1. Hot Dog Soup

2. Porcupine Meatballs

3. Chicken Mexicana

This is such a random assortment of dinners and D could request all three in one week or he might not request any of them for awhile. He does most of the cooking for us, so its nice to turn the tables every once in awhile and make dinner for him.

Information Overload

Well not really since its only 3things, but here goes: 1. I don like drinking ice cold water. I'd rather have it at room temperature. D thinks its gross. 2. I loved my personal training session with H. It kicked my but, and I can't wait for our next one! 3. I'm thankful for the heating pad on my legs thats hopefully going to make it feel better.

This is fun to watch?!

BE A MAN: #52 - Watch 2 football games (per season) of D's choosing (6/6)

I have to admit the first football game I watched (NFL - Washington Redskins) did not go well. Someone ended up really mad (not me) someone ended up crying (not D) and someone figured there would be $5.00 going to charity as this was not going to be a task that got completed.

I gave it a few weeks before I attempted to watch another game, and this time it was a college game (Michigan Wolverines) and it went much better. Some of the games were watched at home, some were watched at the bar/restaurant our friend manages, some were just the two of us and for some there was a group. I tried not to take D's anger and/or frustrations personally and he tried not to let a bad game affect his mood for the whole day. Every time was a little different and every time was a little better. I even watched more then just 6 games and I'm sure I'll end up watching a few a season, both NFL and college from here on out. After all he does watch some of my shows that he has zero interest in so it would only be fair :)

Random Thoughts

This weeks mix of tangents, love and thankfullnes ... 1. I think peanut butter cups are best when they're cold. If we have any in our house, they will ALWAYS be in the fridge. 2. I love that I've been able to drive home with my window down (not all the way) or my sunroof open, in February, in Vermont! 3. I am thankful to have my dream home.

Our History

In the spirit of the day, I figured I'd give you a post of our history of this holiday:

2/14/06 - Our first Valentines Day as a couple
2/14/08 - D gave me a card with a key and asked me to move in with him
2/14/10 - Our first (and only) Valentines Day as an engaged couple
2/14/11 - Our first Valentines Day as a married couple
2/14/12 - Our first Valentines Day in our new house

I love all the milestones we've celebrated so far and can't wait to see what the future holds for us and this day.

Not passing out = success in my book!

WOE IS ME #62 - Donate Blood.

I have a problem with seeing my own blood. Doesn't matter how little either, I can't watch them prick my finger or take the blood. So you see the delima with donating blood. My office has the Red Cross bus/van come to us every so often and we have a blood drive. I've attempted to donate three times, the first time my iron counts weren't high enough (and I was secretly relieved!), the second time I was on antibiotics for my toe and Monday was the third attempt. Isn't the saying "the third times a charm"?

I didn't sign up in case I was to nervous/scared to donate but told myself I wanted to try again. Monday morning, I went to the woman who coordinates the blood drive and asked what the first opening she had was -10 am, about an hour from when I asked. My friend M knows the fear I have of my own blood, and my fear that I would pass out and become a joke at work, so she said she would come with me and talk to me to keep my mind occupied and off what I was doing.

I go into the bus/van, get my finger pricked (which hurt really bad) and my iron levels were just above where they needed to be (they want to see 12.5 or higher and my count was 12.7). After answering a million questions, I was ready. The guy who helped me knew I was a first time donor and really nervous and he was awesome. They got the needle in (stung but only for about 10 seconds) and I was off and running. M and I talked about her marathon training, college and other random stuff I cant even remember. When I was about 3/4 of they way there, the Red Cross person had to readjust my needle (just pulled it out a little bit, which didn't really hurt) and had me squeeze a little foam ball every couple of seconds. Before I knew it, he said I was done. I couldn't believe it. It seemed like it took longer to read the booklet and answer all those questions then it did to actually donate.

I didn't feel woosey, or even come close to passing out. I have a little bruising on my arm and the finger they pricked, both spots are a little sore and you can still see the needle 'hole', but other then that, I'm good! My first time donating went so well, its making me think about doing it again. Maybe not right away, but maybe twice a year. I should be getting my donor card in 6-8 weeks which will tell me my blood type (another check off the list).

Did you know that donating one pint of blood can save up to three lives?

Phone Post

This weeks information:

1. I donated blood for the first time on Monday. It wasn't bad at all. The finger prick hurt the worst! I have a little brusing on my arm and tip of my finger, but nothing bad. I didn't pass out which was my bigges fear.

2. I love dates with my husband. Whether its dinner, a movie, movies at home, catching up on our shows or basketball games, or a combination of those, we always have fun! I love you.

3. I'm thankful for my health and my families health.

Cards

MY NEAREST & DEAREST #29 - Send 20 cards (just because/birthday ect)

This was a lot of fun to complete. I try to be good about sending cards to people, whether there is a reason to send one or not. Sometimes my intentions just don't become actions. So knowing I needed to complete this item off my list, helped me turn my intentions into actions. Hopefully this is something I can keep going.

BECAUSE I LOVED YOU #4 - Spend one day doing whatever he wants

Sometime in December, D, his mom, step-dad and I drove to New Hampshire to watch a prep school basketball tournament. We were there to see Mitch McGary, who is going to play for Michigan next year. To say D was excited would be a serious understatement. He wore his Michigan sweatshirt and when he got to talk to Mitch and shake his hand, he was like a little kid on Christmas! It was so much fun to see him so excited and happy.  It was a super long day, we left at 9 am and didn't get home until after 11 pm. We did stop at Target (I had a strict 35 minute time allotment). It was fun to do something for D that meant a lot to him. Here are a few pictures from the day (they aren't great quality, but its all I have):

Special Packages

FOR GOODNESS SAKE #82 - Send a package to a soldier.

This is something I've wanted to do for a long time. I could give you a million "reasons" why this didn't happen until now, but they'd all be excuses. But it's finally something I can say I've done. My cousin was recently deployed overseas and I thought now is a better time then ever. I have a face to put with the package. My mom, sister and I put together enough stuff to fill two boxes! Some of the stuff we put in the boxes:

- 5 Hour Energy shots
- Power Bars
- Energy & Protein bites
- Candy (Laffy Taffy, Life Savors, Life Savors mints, cookies, Worthers Originals, Twizzlers)
- Gum
- Maple Syrup
- Crackers
- Chips
- Trail Mix
- Gatorade powder mix / Crystal Lite
- Kleenex, hand lotion, chap stick, toothbrushes, wisps, hand/feet warmers, floss

It was so nice to put together something that was so easy for me to do, that I know will mean so much to my cousin. It makes me want to put together another box for other soldiers. Whether its for soldiers who are deployed overseas or are still in the US, but stationed away from their family.

Oh, it's hump day already?!

This weeks hodge lodge of useless Information about myself: 1. I think I might single-handedly be keeping the raspberry business afloat with the amount of pints I've consumed in the last 2+ weeks (probably 10, maybe more, and counting). 2. I love that I got to spend time with my sister in laws this weekend! We had so much fun and it was nice to have time just the three of us. 3. I am thankful for being able to see my parents, sister, brother in law, niece and nephew on Monday night. It was a short visit but I'm glad we got to have it.
